Popki reacted to the idea of banning the name of the village

The head of the Popkovsky rural settlement, Alexey Ivakhnov, commented on the message that the State Duma is going to prepare a bill banning the use of offensive and derogatory words in the names of settlements. As an example, the names of the villages of Lokh in the Saratov region, Shalava in the Yaroslavl region, Popki in the Pskov region and Bukhalovo, Pukovo in the Tver region were given.
As Ivakhnov noted in interview News.ru, he did not hear any complaints or discontent from the residents of the village of Popki.
“Residents are quite normal about this name… we are not shy,” he said.
The head of the settlement added that residents sometimes joke about it, but they live here all their lives and don’t see anything wrong with such a name. At the same time, Ivakhnov expressed his readiness to hold a referendum if necessary.
The Lenta.ru publication, in turn, led the opinion of residents of the villages of Musorka and Lokh, who also said that they are fine with such names and do not believe that settlements need to be renamed.
The initiative to rename offensive toponyms was made by deputies from the New People faction Vladislav Davankov and Anton Tkachev.
