Polyansky: UN resolution is not required to deliver humanitarian aid to Syria

Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, said that there is no need to adopt any special UN resolution for the delivery of humanitarian aid to Syria through two checkpoints on the border with Turkey.
“There is no need for a resolution. Because this is Syria’s sovereign decision… There is a big difference between the cross-border humanitarian aid delivery mechanism, which violates Syria’s sovereignty, and Syria’s sovereign decision,” the diplomat said.
Earlier, the SAR authorities gave the green light to the opening of two checkpoints: Bab es-Salam and Al-Rai from Turkey to northwestern Syria.
