Polyansky: Russia condemns Hamas' actions against Israel

Russia condemns the actions of the Palestinian group Hamas against Israel on October 7, but also considers shelling of civilians in the Gaza Strip unacceptable. This was stated by the First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, Dmitry Polyansky.

“We certainly condemn what was done against Israel on October 7, there can be no justification for this,” he stressed (quote according to TASS).

At the same time, Polyansky called for condemnation of the shelling of residential areas in Gaza, as a result of which civilians are dying. “We cannot close our eyes to what is happening there, we must be absolutely honest,” the diplomat said.

On October 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the summit of CIS leaders in Bishkek that Israel had suffered an unprecedented brutal attack from the Palestinian group Hamas and had the right to protection. At the same time, the Russian leader called for the creation of an independent Palestine as part of the “two-state” concept in the region.

On the morning of October 7, the Palestinian group Hamas attacked Israel. In response, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched Operation Iron Swords and began striking Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli government announced that the country had entered a state of war.
