Russia’s first deputy permanent representative to the UN accused the Czech Republic of cowardice and narrow-mindedness

First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Dmitry Polyansky, commenting on the Czech Republic’s refusal to participate in the UN Security Council meeting convened in connection with the shelling of Belgorod, accused the Czech Foreign Ministry of cowardice and narrow-mindedness.

A meeting of the UN Security Council was scheduled for midnight Moscow time, it was dedicated to the Saturday shelling of Belgorod. Russia insisted on the participation of a representative of the Czech Republic, since Czech weapons were used in the strike. At the same time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic, Jan Lipavsky, stated that “the Czech Republic will not allow itself to be summoned anywhere,” and his country will choose which meetings to attend and which not.

“Your cowardice and narrow-mindedness have been noted,” Polyansky wrote.

“We assume that the Czech Republic will no longer participate in the UN Security Council meeting on the topic [ситуации на] Ukraine,” he also said.

The diplomat also told Izvestia that he sees no prerequisites for changing the West’s attitude towards arms supplies to Ukraine after the tragedy in Belgorod.

Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, in her telegram channel accused the Czech Foreign Ministry of illiteracy after its refusal to take part in a UN Security Council meeting convened in connection with the shelling of Belgorod by Ukraine. According to Zakharova, the UN Security Council conducts its work in accordance with specific norms of international law.

Earlier it was reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the center of Belgorod. Before this, the figure was 21 dead and 111 injured. The strike was reportedly carried out using Alder missiles with a prohibited cassette part and shells from the Czech Vampire MLRS. Most of them were intercepted on approach to Belgorod, but some of the ammunition hit densely populated areas.

Later, the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation in Geneva announced that the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, was shamefully silent regarding the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ strike on the center of Belgorod. Russian diplomats noted that Turk does not deserve to hold this position. In their opinion, this reaction was predictable. The Permanent Mission noted that this approach is the reason for poor relations between the Russian Federation and the UN OHCHR.
