Poll: more than 40% of Germans are in favor of holding early elections to the Bundestag

41% of German citizens are dissatisfied with the work of the ruling coalition and are in favor of holding early elections to the Bundestag. About it testify Deutschlandtrend survey data for the ARD TV channel.

The preservation of the coalition of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) is supported by 32% of respondents. Another 16% of respondents expect a change in the ruling party; they said that they would support the creation of a grand coalition between the SPD and the conservative bloc of the CDU/CSU.

The survey results showed that supporters of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party are most actively in favor of holding early elections – 86% of them. Among CDU/CSU supporters, support is 39%. At the same time, the majority of Germans who support the SPD and the Greens (62% and 80% respectively) are in favor of maintaining the “traffic light” coalition (including the SPD, the Greens and the FDP) for the entire term of office.

At the same time, opinions vary greatly among supporters of the Free Democratic Party (FDP), analysts note. 47% of respondents support the preservation of power of the ruling coalition, while 39% are against it.

After the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, the EU, USA, Canada and a number of other countries introduced large-scale sanctions against the Russian Federation. Russian authorities have repeatedly said that restrictions directed against the Russian economy also affect the economic situation in Western countries.

In January 2022, annual inflation in Germany was 4.9%, but after the introduction of sanctions in March of the same year, it sharply accelerated to 7.3%.
