Politico: US may secretly transfer part of weapons to Ukraine

The United States may remain silent about the supply of certain types of weapons to Ukraine as part of military assistance, writes Politico newspaper. According to the publication, on August 19, a senior Pentagon official at a briefing said that Washington had been transferring HARM anti-radar missiles to Ukraine for some time. At the same time, these deliveries were not officially announced.
“When we first announced the delivery of HARM missiles, their mention in the statement was not specific. We have described it as providing anti-radar capability,” the official said.
Two days later, Yahoo! News suggested that the United States transferred ATACMS family of guided tactical ballistic missiles to Kyiv.
In addition, according to Politico, citing two people familiar with the situation, the United States included Excalibur guided artillery shells in the latest military aid package, which were not publicly announced.
The newspaper also got acquainted with the document that the US administration handed over to Congress in connection with the allocation of additional military assistance to Kyiv. It indicates the weapons of the latest package in the amount of $775 million, and also says that the weapons supplied to Kyiv are “not limited” to those listed in the document.
The publication emphasizes that this information is only an assumption. Not a single member of the administration confirmed or even hinted that secret arms shipments were made to Ukraine.
August 19 US President Joe Biden signed a memorandum on the allocation of another package of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $775 million. Thus, the total volume of US military assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of Joe Biden’s presidential term is about $10.6 billion, said US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
It is known that the new aid package will include 1,500 Tow anti-tank missiles, HARM anti-radar missiles and 1,000 Javelin missile systems. Also, the Pentagon promised to transfer NASAMS mobile anti-aircraft missile systems and Phoenix Ghost loitering ammunition to Kyiv in the next 2-3 months.
Also in early August, the US authorities announced the allocation of military assistance to Ukraine for $ 1 billion. The package included ammunition for the HIMARS MLRS and NASAMS air defense systems, 50 M113 armored medical vehicles, as well as 1000 FGM-148 Javelin portable anti-tank systems, medicines and explosives.
