Politico names NATO’s new center of power in Europe

Due to the Ukrainian conflict that has been going on for a year now, the center of European leadership is shifting to the countries of Eastern Europe – most obviously, towards Poland, writes Politico.
Writing for the publication, U.S. military intelligence officer Chels Mihta notes that the Polish government has been at the forefront of efforts to organize a coalition of aid to Ukraine within NATO, prompting a recent increase in Western military supplies to Kiev. Warsaw’s successful pressure on Berlin and the subsequent decision to send Leopard tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine became a political victory for the Eastern European country.
“The Leopard 2 coalition, created by Warsaw, goes beyond the borders of Central Europe. It includes Finland, Norway, Spain, the Netherlands and Denmark, and it can change the internal dynamics of Europe, shifting the center of gravity of NATO from the Franco-German tandem, ”the author of the publication shared his point of view.
According to the expert, the changing internal dynamics of the continent is associated not only with political games or the creation of coalitions within the Western military-political bloc, but with hard power and willingness to take risks. Mikhta emphasizes that Eastern European countries are also leading the way in repairing the damage caused by decades of underfunding of the military-industrial complex, purchasing weapons, equipment and ammunition “at prices not seen since the Cold War.”
