Political scientist Chesnakov predicted four packages of anti-Russian sanctions in 2024

But Russians are no longer worried about this

Next year, the collective West may adopt four more new packages of sanctions aimed at the Russian economy. This forecast was given by political scientist Alexey Chesnakov. An analyst at the Federation Council on Thursday assured that the majority of Russians regard such Western actions as an element of moral pressure.

The next, 12th package of anti-Russian sanctions will be presented in December, and after that this year nothing new should be expected from the West, predicts Alexey Chesnakov. In 2024, the analyst predicted four more new packages from former partners for Russia.

In public opinion, sanctions are perceived more as political than economic, Chesnakov noted. The political scientist said that the results of the surveys show a high level of awareness among Russians about the sanctions policies of Western countries.

“If we take data from the Public Opinion Foundation, 56% of Russians say that sanctions do not in any way affect them personally or their way of life,” Chesnakov said. And he cited data from another survey: 62% are not worried about sanctions.

70% of Russians believe that Russia should continue its policy, despite the sanctions. 67% are confident that sanctions would have been introduced in any case, even if the SVO had not begun. Chesnakov called this perception of citizens about the reasons for imposing sanctions stable.

41% of respondents are confident that sanctions are aimed at weakening Russia’s influence on the world stage, 33% believe that sanctions are needed to undermine Russians’ trust in power. 28% formulate the West’s goal as “subordination of Russia and appropriation of its resources.” 27% see the purpose of sanctions pressure as preventing the achievement of the goals of the SVO.

Chesnakov noted: some Russians named the results of the sanctions that they feel. 18% believe that this is a price increase. 7% – shortage of goods and services, 2% – problems with traveling abroad.

– Citizens have a clear impression that the authorities dealt with the first and second waves of sanctions policy much more effectively than initially estimated. Many forecasters were initially mistaken and assessed the situation as more dramatic.

Citizens also treat our forecasters, they were also wrong and now have a more positive attitude towards the actions of the authorities. Although initially there were some hesitations, noted Alexey Chesnakov.

Next year, the sanctions pressure will not decrease, the analyst is sure. In his opinion, in 2024 the West will adopt four more packages of restrictions:

– The first one is somewhere in February, the second one is in May, and the next ones are in August and late autumn. They will be related to political reasons. I will not name them, so as not to encourage some of our colleagues to panic and use this political data in activities against us,” Chesnakov caught up with the intrigues, but made a reservation that nothing dramatic is expected.
