Polish Prosecutor’s Office Stops Investigation into Attack on Russian Ambassador

The Polish prosecutor’s office terminated the investigation into the attack on the Russian ambassador in Warsaw, Sergei Andreev. About it reported RMF radio.
The reasons for the termination of the investigation are called “purely formal”. According to the prosecutor’s office, the application of the Criminal Code depends on the specifics of the legislation of a foreign state, in this case Russia. It is clarified that in the legislation of Russia there is no responsibility for insulting the heads of other states or their representatives, “hence the decision to stop [дела]which means that no one will be held responsible for the attack on the ambassador.”
On May 9 last year, Andreev was attacked while trying to lay flowers at the military memorial cemetery of Soviet soldiers on Žvirki and Wigura Street in Warsaw. The diplomat, his wife and a group of embassy employees were doused with red paint and were not allowed to go to the memorial. The police, who arrived at the scene a few minutes later, surrounded the diplomats and helped them to the car.
After that, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed a strong protest to the Polish authorities and demanded to immediately organize a wreath-laying ceremony and ensure its complete safety from provocations.
Polish prosecutor’s office excited a criminal case only two months after the attack, in July 2022. According to the Russian ambassador, who then received a letter about the start of the proceedings, the case was opened under Art. 136 of the Criminal Code of the Republic concerning an attack on an accredited diplomatic representative. It provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to five years.
This year on May 9 Andreev also couldn’t lay wreaths in memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic War.
