Duda vetoes a law providing for funding of state media

Polish President Andrzej Duda vetoed the budget law, which provides for funding state media. It is alleged that the new government is trying to take control of them. The head of state announced this on his account on the social network X.

On Wednesday, the head of the country’s Ministry of Culture dismissed the heads of the boards of Polish Television, Polish Radio and the Polish News Agency, as well as the supervisory boards.

“I decided to veto the budgetary law for 2024, which included 3 billion zlotys for state media,” Duda said in a statement.

He emphasized that a gross violation of the Constitution and the principles of a democratic rule-of-law state should not be allowed, and he called attempts to finance state media from the budget “unacceptable.”
