Polish PM accuses Germany of harming Europe

Berlin’s hesitation casts doubt on the value of an alliance with Germany, and the country’s energy policy is in ruins, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said in a interview Spiegel magazine.
Citizens of Poland, he said, are disappointed that Germany realized its mistakes in energy policy late. Ukraine “repulsed the enemy faster than the Germans made decisions,” Morawiecki said.
“Poland has already delivered more than $2 billion worth of weapons, 300 tanks and other heavy equipment. The hesitations and inaction of Berlin seriously cast doubt on the value of an alliance with Germany. And we are not the only ones who say so,” the Polish prime minister said.
Speaking about the role of Germany in Europe, Morawiecki called the exit of the FRG of nuclear energy and coal generation premature. He mentioned the construction of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines and the country’s dependence on Russia associated with this project.
“It is becoming clear that the German energy policy that Berlin has always boasted of is in ruins. <...> German policy has caused enormous damage to Europe,” the Polish prime minister told the Polish Prime Minister.
In his opinion, the importance of the countries of Eastern Europe has increased, because they “were right in all the warnings about Russia.” The Germans, Morawiecki noted, “have always been very condescending towards Moscow and bowed.”
In August, Poland accused the European Union as a whole and its leaders, Germany and France, of imperialism. Morawiecki said that against the backdrop of Moscow’s “aggressive policy”, the EU lacks the political will to effectively confront Russia. Berlin and officials in Brussels, he said, do not heed advice from Warsaw, which “is much more experienced in matters of relations with Russia.”
