Polish Foreign Ministry announced the deterioration of relations with Ukraine

Relations between Poland and Ukraine deteriorated due to the statements of the Ukrainian authorities. About it informed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Pavel Yablonsky on the air of RMF FM radio station.

“We will convey our assessments of how our relations look today, which, unfortunately, due to the statements of some representatives of the Ukrainian authorities, have not been the best lately. Nobody hides this,” he said, answering a question about the upcoming meeting with a representative of the Ukrainian embassy.

Yablonsky explained that “certain emotions appeared” in Kyiv. According to him, Warsaw treats this with understanding, but at the same time noted that Ukraine “shouldn’t treat its allies like that.” The deputy minister added that Warsaw supports Kyiv “to the extent that it meets the national interests of Poland.”

On July 31, the head of the Office of the President of Poland, Marcin Przydacz, in an interview with the Polish media, said that Kyiv “should begin to appreciate the role that Poland has played for Ukraine in recent months and years.” According to the Ukrainian publication Evropeiskaya Pravda, these words were made in the context of Poland blocking the export of Ukrainian grain.

August 1 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called Ambassador of Poland to Kyiv Bartosz Cichocki. The Ukrainian department emphasized that statements about the alleged ingratitude of Ukrainians for helping Poland “do not correspond to reality and are unacceptable.”

After that, the Ambassador of Ukraine in Warsaw, Vasily Zvarych, was summoned to the Polish Foreign Ministry. The call of the Polish ambassador to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry was criticized by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on Twitter. According to him, given the support that Warsaw provides to Kyiv, “there should be no such mistakes.”

The aggravation of relations between Poland and Ukraine took place against the backdrop of Warsaw’s policy to protect the agricultural market. Earlier, the European Commission (EC) imposed an embargo on the supply of four types of grains and oilseeds from Ukraine to several Eastern European countries, including Poland, until September 15. July 19 Morawiecki declaredthat if the EC does not extend the restriction, then Poland will independently close the border for such goods.
