The police banned the parish of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church from holding a religious procession in the Chernivtsi region. Law enforcement officials said that he violated the ban on mass gatherings during the martial law declared in the country. This was reported by the Ukrainian Union of Orthodox Journalists.
The UOJ clarified that, as a result, administrative protocols were drawn up against the organizers of the religious procession to the Banchen Monastery. They specified that religious processions were prohibited by the decision of the Defense Council of the Chenovitsky region of August 12, 2022.
Before that, the SBU accused Metropolitan Longin of Banchen of inciting inter-religious hatred. He was charged with disparaging remarks about the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Mikhail Galuzin noted that the persecution of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church leads to an even deeper split in society.
