Poland will almost double its defense budget

The defense budget of Poland in 2023 will be increased to 98 billion zlotys ($20.8 billion) against 58 billion zlotys ($12.3 billion) in 2022, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said at a press conference.
“We will end this year, apparently, with a national defense budget of 58 billion zlotys ($12.3 billion). For next year, we are planning about 98 billion ($20.8 billion) in the budget itself,” said Morawiecki (quote according to RIA Novosti).
In addition, the prime minister added, Poland plans to spend 30-40 billion zlotys ($6.4-$8.51 billion) on the purchase of foreign weapons. Morawiecki believes that the council of ministers has “adopted an ambitious budget for difficult times” that will help keep Poland’s families and families safe.
At the same time, budget revenues in 2023 are expected at the level of approximately 604.4 billion zlotys ($128.6 billion) – an increase of 105 billion zlotys ($22.3 billion) compared to this year, says Morawiecki. Budget expenditures are planned at the level of about 669.4 billion zlotys ($142.4 billion) with a budget deficit of 4.4%.

He noted that his country sees Russia as its likely military adversary, and Poland also has a border with the Russian Federation and Belarus and, therefore, is located on the “front line”.

Morawiecki published an article with such invectives in the German newspaper Die Welt. According to him, against the backdrop of Moscow’s “aggressive policy”, the EU lacks the political will to effectively confront Russia. Berlin and officials in Brussels, according to Morawiecki, do not heed advice from Warsaw, which “is much more experienced in matters of relations with Russia.”
