The Polish government may soon present territorial claims to the Czech Republic, writes Rzeczpospolita edition.
“368.44 hectares is exactly how much Prague should return to Warsaw. We are talking about compensation for the division of the Polish-Czechoslovak border in the 1950s, which was unfavorable for Poland, ”the publication says.
The publication notes that since 1992 the Polish-Czech border commission has been dealing with this case, and in 2005 the Czech government even offered financial compensation, but Poland rejected it. Member of the European Parliament from the party “Civil Platform” Jan Olbricht, in turn, criticized this initiative.
“The moment in which Europe and the world find themselves because of the conflict in Ukraine is not suitable for resolving contentious issues with neighbors,” the politician said.
In 1958, borders were adjusted between the two countries – the authorities of the Polish People’s Republic transferred lands of 1205.9 hectares to Czechoslovakia, and the authorities of the Czech Republic to the Polish side – 837.46 hectares.
