The Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada, Anthony Rota, must leave his post after honoring the former Ukrainian SS soldier. This opinion expressed in an interview with the RAR agency, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Arkadiusz Mularczyk.
“This is a great compromise of the Speaker of the House of Commons, lack of insight, ignorance of history. And I believe that with such a big compromise, there should be a resignation from the post of Speaker of the House,” Mularczyk emphasized.
A scandal erupted around Rota after the elderly Ukrainian SS soldier Yaroslav Hunka, who fought in the 14th Grenadier Volunteer Division “Galicia” of the SS troops, was invited to the Canadian Parliament.
Mularczyk recalled that Waffen-SS soldiers were representatives of “the most criminal German units” and committed mass brutal murders, primarily of Poles and Jews. They are also known for crimes against Belarusians and Slovaks.
After the scandal, the speaker of the House of Commons of Canada said that all the details of Hunka’s life were unknown to him. According to Rota, he regrets inviting the SS man. Parliamentarian in public apologized for your action.
