Poland will put forward a requirement for Russian athletes to participate in the European Games: they will need to sign a statement condemning the SVO. This was announced by the Minister of Sports and Tourism of Poland Kamil Bortnichuk on the air of RMF FM.
Recall that on March 28, the IOC recommended that international federations allow Russian athletes to participate in competitions as neutral participants: provided that participants from Russia do not support the CBO.
The IOC also believes that athletes from Russia who are associated with the armed forces and security agencies should not be allowed to compete. In addition, the committee decided that teams from Russia and Belarus cannot be considered as participants in international competitions.
“As part of the condemnation of the war, let them [российские участники] sign a statement opposing war crimes. If a Russian athlete signs such a statement, then I think it will be a testament to morality, and he will be able to participate in the competition,” Minister Bortnichuk said.
Bortnichuk also noted that a statement condemning the SVO will be required from Russian athletes to participate in any competitions in Poland.
