Poland announced the launch of a 200 km electronic fence on the border with Russia

The Polish authorities intend to launch a 200 km long electronic fence on the border with Russia on October 13. Polish President Andrzej Duda will take part in the opening ceremony of the surveillance center, the country’s national security bureau reported on its X page.

“Today the launch of a 200-kilometer electronic fence on the border with Russia will take place. <...> This is the most modern system in Europe, including several thousand cameras and other sensors,” the statement says.

Poland borders the Kaliningrad region, the length of the land section is 203.3 km. Warsaw began construction of a fence on the border with the Russian Federation last fall, and such plans became known back in February. The country’s Ministry of Defense then tied up this is because the Kaliningrad airport has become open to flights from the Middle East and Africa.

In June 2022, Finland announced its intention to build a fortification fence on the border with Russia. A fence may appear in the eastern part of the border to protect against “threats of a hybrid nature,” including possible “migration for the purpose of political pressure.” At the end of September 2023, Finnish media found outthat the Finnish defense forces began to conclude secret agreements with the owners of land plots on the border with Russia to begin the construction of fortifications on their territory.
