The Polish authorities have stopped supplies of weapons and military equipment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The head of the Polish government, Mateusz Morawiecki, spoke about this on Wednesday, September 20.
As the politician said on the Polsat TV channel, Warsaw is no longer transferring any weapons to Kyiv, since Poland itself needs to actively arm itself.
The head of the Polish Cabinet explained this by following the principle “If you don’t want to defend yourself, you must have something to defend yourself with.”
Morawiecki’s statement comes amid economic disputes between Poland and Ukraine. Warsaw unilaterally imposed an embargo on the import of Ukrainian grain to protect Polish farmers. Kyiv threatened proceedings at the WTO and a ban on the import of fruits and vegetables from Poland.
Polish President Andrzej Duda, as a warning, reminded the Ukrainian authorities that all arms supplies from Western partners to Ukraine pass through Poland.
Moreover, just a few hours before Morawiecki’s statement, his deputy and chairman of the ruling party of Poland, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, assured that the Polish authorities will continue to support Ukraine in its conflict with Russiadespite disagreements over the supply of agricultural products.
