German Defense Minister Pistorius: Armed forces will not be able to solve problems until 2030
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, in an interview with the Welt am Sonntag newspaper, said that the German Armed Forces will not be able to solve all the problems with personnel and material and technical base until 2030.
As Pistorius noted, the Bundeswehr is faced with the task of defending Germany and other NATO members, and they must also participate in international operations.
“This requires abilities, backed up by the material and technical base and personnel,” the head of the German Defense Ministry emphasized.
However, as he emphasized, “we all know that by 2030 the existing gaps cannot be completely filled.”
In this regard, Berlin should prioritize. And one of them is the defense of NATO’s eastern flank, the minister said.
At the same time, Pistorius noted that in one term in government it is impossible to fill the gaps that have appeared in the German army over the past thirty years. And the issue of transferring the country’s economy, according to him, is not even discussed.
Earlier it was reported that the Armed Forces of Germany spent that part of the defense budget that was intended for the purchase of spare parts for military equipment.
