Pharmaceutical retailer “Rigla” acquired 99.99% of the Ussuri pharmacy chain “Pharm”

Pharmaceutical retailer Rigla (Rigla, Bud Zdorov, Zdravsiti brands), which is part of the Protek group of Vadim Yakunin, acquired the Pharm chain, consisting of 23 pharmacies mainly in Ussuriysk, for an estimated 150 million rubles. Over the past couple of years, there have been fewer deals to buy networks: owners are reluctant to part with the business at the offered price, and buyers are looking for networks that will solve specific expansion problems.

The Rigla company, which manages the network of the same name, on August 15 became the owner of 99.99% in Pharm LLC, the remaining 0.01% was transferred to Proteka, Kommersant was found in the Unified State Register of Legal Entities. Rigla did not provide a comment at the time of publication. Pharma did not respond to Kommersant’s request.

The Pharm network belonged to Yury Shandra, a former deputy of the Ussuriysk City Duma, and his family. According to SPARK, he still has the Centroptika optics salon in Ussuriysk, a share in the Medpharm multidisciplinary medical center and the OpticFarm salon.

Rigla is the largest Russian pharmacy chain. Its revenue in 2022, according to Vademecum, amounted to 133.4 billion rubles, it consisted of 3.66 thousand pharmacies. Now Rigla has 35 pharmacies in Primorsky Krai on its website. Pharmacies are listed as “Health City”.

Pharm is not the first purchase of Rigla this year. In June, the chain acquired Trick-Pharma, which includes five pharmacies in Krasnodar. According to RNC Pharma Development Director Nikolai Bespalov, over the past few years, Rigla has been conducting a careful expansion: the group buys small chains that allow either entering a new region or expanding the company’s presence in specific locations.

Transactions for the purchase of pharmacy chains this year has become much less, although market leaders are still interested in consolidation, says Sergey Shulyak. According to him, the reason is that buyers are not ready to offer more than two or three monthly turnovers, and chains that are thinking about selling are not satisfied with such a price. In addition, when buying, there is always a risk of loss of efficiency associated with integration, therefore point transactions are carried out in relation to assets well known to the buyer, which solve certain expansion problems, Nikolai Bespalov points out.
