There is no reason to talk about “ethnic cleansing” in Nagorno-Karabakh, press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said on Channel One.
“There is no reason yet to talk about ethnic cleansing. And for this there are direct contacts, during which we convey our possible concerns,” he clarified (quote according to TASS).
Peskov added that Moscow expects that Baku will not hit civilian targets, as promised, all rights of civilians in Karabakh must be respected.
“The Russian Federation recognizes that the situation in Karabakh now is an internal matter of Azerbaijan,” the Kremlin representative emphasized.
On September 19, Azerbaijan announced the start of “anti-terrorism measures” in Nagorno-Karabakh to “restorate the constitutional order.” Already on September 20, the unrecognized republic announced a complete ceasefire and disarmament of troops through the mediation of Russian peacekeepers. This was later confirmed by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
