The “sanitary zone” will depend on the range of weapons of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). About it declared Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov in an interview with TASS.
“This [размер “санитарной зоны”] depends on what types of weapons Ukraine has. The higher the tactical and technical characteristics of weapons in Ukraine, the greater this distance should be,” Peskov said. The spokesman added that the process of creating such a zone has been underway “for a year and a half.”
On June 13, Russian President Vladimir Putin during a conversation with military allowed the creation of a “sanitary zone” on the territory of Ukraine in the event of continued shelling of the border regions of Russia. He noted that such a zone should be created at a distance from which “it would be impossible to reach our territory.”
The next day, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev declaredthat the line of the “sanitary zone” should run along the borders of Lviv.
