Peskov: the meeting between Putin and Lukashenko lasted “long after midnight”

Yesterday’s meeting between the presidents of Russia and Belarus, Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko, “was dragged on well past midnight,” spokesman for the Russian president Dmitry Peskov said.
“Yesterday, a very, very long and meaningful conversation between the two presidents took place, it dragged on well after midnight,” Peskov said. The press secretary added that a meeting of the Supreme State Council (SSC) of the Union State, which is planned to be held in the Grand Kremlin Palace, will be held today.
He also said that Putin could meet with the leaders of the new regions – Denis Pushilin (DNR), Leonid Pasechnik (LNR), Yevgeny Balitsky (Zaporozhye region) and Vladimir Saldo (Kherson region).
“They [встречи] were supposed to take place yesterday, but yesterday, unfortunately, the schedule was delayed,” the presidential spokesman said.
On April 5, Peskov did not rule out that the Russian and Belarusian presidents might discuss a peace plan for resolving the conflict in Ukraine at a meeting. Then he stressed that the meeting will be devoted to bilateral relations in the context of preparations for the meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State.
At the open part of the event, Putin noted the successful work of countries in various areas, including in the area of security and economy, and the Belarusian president, in turn, spoke about the implementation of 28 union programs by almost 80%.
On the same day, a meeting of the Security Council of Russia was held, where the topic of ensuring the rule of law, law and order and public security in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions was discussed.
