The election campaign for the 2024 presidential election has not yet been announced. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, clarifying that the number of candidates for the post is not limited.
“The first candidate will be after he is registered first. Secondly, a different number of candidates may appear; our Constitution stipulates who can stand as a candidate for the position of president. Many people meet these criteria. And thirdly, the election campaign has not yet been announced,” he said.
The fact that ex-State Duma deputy from the Union of Right Forces (SPS), deputy of the Council of Deputies of Dolgoprudny near Moscow Boris Nadezhdin agreed on a presidential nomination with the Civil Initiative party, he told Vedomosti.
In the program, Nadezhdin intends to speak out against military action. “Russia needs the future of a country that free, educated people will look up to and to which they will want to return or come. And there are tens of millions of people who see the situation the same way,” he said. “But the problem is that they are not represented anywhere at all.”
So far, Nadezhdin is the only candidate who has announced his intention to run, but he has not yet registered.
Presidential elections in Russia are scheduled for 2024. According to the law, the procedure takes place on the third Sunday of March, i.e. next year the elections may take place on March 17. The CEC has already begun preparations for the elections, CEC Chairman Ella Pamfilova said earlier. At the beginning of October, the Federation Council reported that the date of the 2024 presidential elections would likely be announced December.
On September 11, Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the president would make a decision on participating in the elections after voting dates were set and candidates were nominated. On the same day, Peskov noted that if Putin nominates his candidacy for the 2024 presidential elections, no one will be able to give him real competition. In September the head of state didn’t talk about participation in the presidential elections and suggested waiting for the parliament’s decision on the date of their holding.
