Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov spoke negatively about the unrest in Brazil. According to a Kremlin spokesman, Russia condemns the actions of the instigators of the riot and supports the incumbent president’s efforts to restore order.
Peskov also recalled that Putin recently congratulated Luis da Silva on his victory in the presidential election in Brazil. A spokesman for the Russian leader noted that the Kremlin appreciates da Silva’s efforts to develop bilateral relations.
Recall that the unrest in Brazil broke out on January 8. Supporters of ex-president Bolsonaro seized the Congress building, located in the capital of the country, and a number of other important institutions. On January 9, the Supreme Court of Brazil gave the army and police leadership a day to destroy the camps of the rebellious supporters of the ex-president. The protesters were compared to terrorists.
Authorities later reported that they had quelled the riots in the capital, Brasilia, and regained control of government institutions. In total, about 400 protesters were detained. The situation in the region is under control.
