Peskov spoke about the program of the UAE President’s visit to Russia

UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived in Russia on a working visit, together with Russian President Vladimir Putin, they will inspect the Emirati pavilion as part of SPIEF and after that they will hold bilateral negotiations. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.

“Today we made an announcement – the head of the United Arab Emirates Nahyan is coming on a working visit. The Emirates is the main guest of the St. Petersburg Forum this year. <...> This morning, Putin and Nahyan will inspect the Emirati pavilion, the Emirati exposition, after which bilateral negotiations will take place. The talks will be one-on-one, but if necessary, those ministers, those heads of departments whom the leaders deem appropriate to invite will be invited,” he said.

Peskov explained that the negotiations will continue until the start of the plenary session SPIEF, after that, the head of the UAE will leave Russia without remaining for the plenary session. The working part of the delegation is headed by the head of the emirate of Ras al-Khaim, Sheikh Saud ibn Saqr al-Qasimi.

Today, June 16, in the Kremlin announced visit of Sheikh Al Nahyan. According to Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, the leaders of the states will consider the work of the SPIEF and the development of relations between Russia and the UAE, as well as discuss a number of international and regional issues. Ushakov added that Putin’s meetings with Al Nahyan are quite frequent (he came to Russia for the 12th time) and the presidents have developed “trusting and constructive relations.”

In total, Al Nahyan visited Russia 11 times in various capacities, and in 2019 he received the Russian president. Their previous meeting passed in October 2022 in St. Petersburg. Then the sheikh informed the Russian leader that the UAE was ready to take on the role of an intermediary between Moscow and Kiev. In turn, Putin spoke about the situation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in Ukraine and Moscow’s efforts to ensure nuclear safety. In addition, the parties touched upon the issues of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
