Peskov spoke about Moscow’s efforts to prevent war in Ukraine in 2014

Moscow did everything in its power to prevent a war in 2014, when a coup d’état took place in Ukraine. This was announced by the presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov at the Territory of Meanings forum.

“When in 2014 there was a coup in Ukraine, and it was precisely a coup d’état, and when the nationalists began to raise their heads there, and when the Donbass did not want to live with them, when they realized that the power of the nationalists was being established, there was a very difficult moment,” he said (cit. according to TASS).

According to Peskov, Moscow at that moment was taking all possible measures to resolve the situation in a peaceful manner and defend the rights of the residents of Donbass.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said that Russia did not start the conflict in Ukraine. With the help of a special operation that began on February 24, 2022, Moscow is trying to end the war waged by the “enemy of our people”, said the president at a state awards ceremony in the Kremlin in May.

In January, the head of state declaredthat Russia could not help but react to what is happening in Ukraine after the coup d’état in 2014. According to him, from that moment on, full-scale military operations were going on in the Donbass with the use of heavy equipment, artillery, tanks and aircraft. Putin added that the special operation is “an attempt to stop this war” and protect the inhabitants of the region.
