Peskov said there were no prospects for negotiations with Ukraine

The Kremlin sees no prospects for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, said Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation.

“The fact that the outcome of what is happening should be a just and long-term peace is one can agree with this, but as for the prospects for some kind of negotiations, we do not see them at the moment. We have repeatedly spoken about this, ”said the Kremlin spokesman.

Thus, Peskov commented on the statement of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who had previously declaredthat the conflict in Ukraine is likely to be resolved through diplomacy and negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv. Blinken noted that the US would like “a long-term peace, not a sham truce.”

“The goals of the special operation must be achieved: the Russian Federation must and will achieve its goals,” Peskov answered the question of what should happen so that the Kremlin sees the prospects for these negotiations.

Earlier, on November 29, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation declaredthat negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are now impossible, since they are denied by the Ukrainian side. Peskov added that in order to resume dialogue, Ukraine must not only repeal the law refusing to negotiate with Moscow, but also show political will. According to him, Kyiv must show readiness to discuss Russia’s demands, “which are well known.”

Peskov has repeatedly pointed out the impossibility of negotiations with Ukraine due to Kyiv’s refusal at the legislative level to dialogue with Moscow. On October 4, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a document refusing to negotiate with Russia as long as Russian President Vladimir Putin is its president.

Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. During the special operation, the LPR, DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions became part of Russia.

Since the beginning of hostilities, the parties have held negotiations several times. The first three face-to-face meetings took place in Belarus in February-March, and the fourth round of the Russian-Ukrainian dialogue was held on March 29 in Istanbul. Later, the process was frozen, since Ukraine withdrew from it.
