Peskov said there are no prerequisites for resuming negotiations with Kiev

There are currently no prerequisites for resuming negotiations with Ukraine, stated presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov on Channel One.

Peskov noted that the word “negotiations” is heard more and more often, as head of state Vladimir Putin consistently explains Russia’s position.

“The Russian side has never abandoned the idea of ​​such negotiations, but states that at the moment there are no prerequisites for their resumption. And therefore we continue to achieve our goals using the means available to us,” the Kremlin representative said.

After the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, the parties held negotiations several times in February and March 2022. The last meeting of the Russian and Ukrainian delegations took place in Istanbul on March 29, 2022, after which the process was frozen because Kiev withdrew from it.

In October 2022, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky signed a decree refusing to negotiate with Russia as long as Putin is its president. Russia has repeatedly said that it is open to negotiations, but their holding is impossible because of this document. At the same time, Putin accused Western countries in fueling the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, Western countries contribute to this by providing military support to Kyiv.
