Peskov said that the Kremlin does not intend to quickly change the nuclear doctrine

The Kremlin is not going to quickly change the Russian nuclear doctrine, said presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

“We are not talking about some quick action in this regard. We are talking about the fact that the thought process is constantly going on, there is a comparison of doctrinal guidelines, this is constantly analyzed at the expert level, including taking into account how the general situation is developing,” the spokesman said.

Last week President Vladimir Putin declaredthat the Russian side might think about “taking into service” Washington’s developments in ensuring its security, including the tactics of delivering a disarming strike.

According to the provisions of the military doctrine, the Russian side can use nuclear weapons if reliable information is received about the launch of ballistic missiles attacking the territory of Russia, if nuclear weapons or other types of weapons of mass destruction are used on the territory of the country. Other conditions include the impact of the enemy on critical state or military facilities of the Russian Federation, the failure of which will lead to the disruption of the response of nuclear forces, or aggression against Russia using conventional weapons, when the very existence of the state is threatened.
