Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov called provocative statements that Moscow is allegedly forcing Armenia to join the Union State of Russia and Belarus, transmits News.am portal.
“Such statements can be considered provocative. They are not true. None of the Russian officials spoke about this and did not represent it to the Armenian side through anyone, ”said the Kremlin representative.
Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan earlier said that the country’s strategic ally, Russia, is allegedly forcing Armenia to provide Azerbaijan with a corridor through its sovereign territory, as well as join the Union State.
On the air of a public TV company, he noted that Azerbaijan’s invasion of the sovereign territory of Armenia on September 13, as well as the closure of the Lachin corridor, are allegedly part of Russia’s pressure on Armenia.
On December 22, it became known that Armenia refused to take part in the meeting of the foreign ministers of Russia and Azerbaijan on a peace treaty. The trilateral talks were to take place on 23 December.
The Armenian side confirmed its readiness to participate in the meeting in Moscow about two weeks ago. However, due to the blocking of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan, Yerevan asked to postpone the negotiations. The Armenian Foreign Ministry explained that at present, the priority for the country’s foreign minister is to resolve the situation around the Lachin corridor. In response to the decision to refuse the meeting, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed regret.
