Peskov: Russia has always appeared in NATO documents as an adversary

In the working documents of NATO, Russia has always appeared as an adversary, said the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

Journalists asked Peskov whether, against the backdrop of reports about the development of a secret military plan by NATO in the event of a clash with the Russian Federation, it is possible to say that in the West there is an understanding that Moscow will win the conflict in Ukraine.

“Believe me, in the working documents of NATO, Russia has always appeared as an adversary, and there the working documents have always contained plans to counteract our country. This is not an innovation,” Peskov replied.

The intensification of these discussions is now connected with the growth of NATO’s direct and indirect involvement in the conflict.

Earlier in mid-May, Reuters reportedthat for the first time since the Cold War, NATO countries will adopt “thousands of pages” of secret plans in the event of a military confrontation with Russia. “We must prepare for the fact that a conflict may arise at any moment,” said one of the top military officials of the alliance, Rob Bauer. These documents will be adopted, according to the agency, at the July NATO summit in Vilnius.

In April, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu saidthat after the start of the special operation, the West used the military potential and capabilities of almost all NATO countries against Russia. The actions of the West, he believes, indicate advance preparations for confrontation with Russia.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly pointed to the involvement of Western countries in the conflict in Ukraine. In September 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin, announcing a partial mobilization in the country, said that the Russian army in Ukraine was opposed to “virtually the entire military machine of the collective West.”
