Peskov: response to the oil price ceiling is expected this week

A presidential decree in response to the introduction of a price ceiling for Russian oil is expected this week, said Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Russian president.

“Yes,” the Kremlin spokesman replied when asked if a presidential decree on retaliatory measures is expected this week. But Peskov did not specify the exact date.

Earlier, on December 12, the press secretary of the Russian President informedthat the answer to the price ceiling for Russian oil will be presented in the coming days. The fact that the preparation of response measures to the decision of the European Union to introduce a ceiling price for this energy resource is being completed, Peskov informed December 8th.

The EU countries agreed on a price ceiling for Russian oil of $60 per barrel on December 3, the restriction came into force on December 5, along with a ban on the supply of Russian oil by sea to the EU countries. In addition to the EU countries, the G7 countries, Norway and Australia also joined the ceiling.

Russian authorities have repeatedly said that Moscow will not supply fuel to countries that set a price cap or join the cap. The Kremlin said that they do not accept the introduction of restrictions and consider it absurd. The step taken by the Western countries is fraught with problems for the markets in the medium term, spoke earlier Peskov.
