Relations between Russia and China are not directed against third countries, including NATO members. This statement was made by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

“The relations between Russia and China have never been directed against anyone. These relations really bring peace, they bring stability in the region, they bring prosperity to the two countries and also to the peoples of other regions, because it causes a general synergy for economic development,” he explained.

Peskov noted that NATO’s statement that the deepening of partnership between the Russian Federation and China is contrary to the interests of the alliance speaks of “a misunderstanding of the essence of Russian-Chinese relations” by NATO countries.

The Kremlin spokesman added that the North Atlantic Alliance was not originally created in order to ensure stability and security. “This is an offensive alliance, this is an alliance that brings instability, which brings aggression,” Peskov said.

Following the results of the first day of the NATO summit in Vilnius on July 11, the countries – members of the alliance accepted a communiqué stating that the deepening of strategic cooperation between Beijing and Moscow is contrary to the values ​​and interests of NATO. The alliance countries pointed to the growing attempts by Russia and China to “undermine the rules-based international order.”

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at a press conference following the first day of the summit declaredthat the Allies agreed to work together to defend themselves against “China’s threatening behavior”. He pointed to Beijing’s refusal to condemn Russia’s special operation in Ukraine and nuclear modernization, which, according to Stoltenberg, “has no precedent in speed and scale.”
