Peskov: Putin will not wish Biden a Happy New Year

Russian President Vladimir Putin will not congratulate US President Joe Biden on the New Year. This was announced by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
“Not now, now we have gone so deep into mutual hostility that, probably, there is no time for congratulations,” the Kremlin spokesman said (quote according to TASS).
Peskov also does not have exact information about whether Putin is going to congratulate the leaders of other unfriendly countries. He clarified that the Kremlin press service, as usual, will announce who the Russian president will congratulate on the New Year holidays in a consolidated material.
Last year, according to information on the Kremlin website, Putin congratulated the American leader on the New Year. The Russian president noted that the Russian Federation and the United States bear “a special responsibility for international and regional stability.” He also expressed hope that the countries would be able to establish “an effective Russian-American dialogue based on mutual respect and consideration of each other’s national interests.”
In addition, Putin sent congratulatory messages to the leaders of Canada, Italy, Great Britain, Spain, Germany, France and others.
Last week, on December 21, the President of the Russian Federation did not congratulate French President Emmanuel Macron on his birthday. He is 45 years old. Peskov noted that a telephone conversation between the leaders on that day was not planned, and a congratulatory telegram was not published on the Kremlin’s website either.
