Russian President Vladimir Putin was informed about the removal of Vladimir Mau from the post of rector of the RANEPA, press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov said at a briefing.
“Of course, the President was informed about this. This is a very important educational institution, which over the past more than a decade has turned into a really very important educational center – a center for advanced training, etc. – with a fairly large scientific authority,” he said.
When asked whether the appointed Acting Rector of the RANEPA, Alexei Komissarov, would also be able to continue to head the ANO “Russia – a Land of Opportunities”, Peskov could not answer, indicating that this would depend on Komissarov himself.
“The platform itself also quickly got on its feet and showed its effectiveness. And very successfully and actively works. Here it is very important that both do not slow down the pace of development, because both are in high demand,” he added.
Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed the order to dismiss Vladimir Mau from the post of Rector of the RANEPA today, January 23. It is clarified that Mau, who has held the position of rector of the Academy of National Economy under the government since 2002, and since 2010 – RANEPA, was removed from this post at his “own request due to the state of health.”
Earlier, Mau was a suspect in the case of ex-deputy head of the Ministry of Education Marina Rakova and director of the Institute of Social Sciences of the RANEPA, rector of Shaninka Sergei Zuev. Mau was detained at the end of June 2022, he was suspected of involvement in fraud on an especially large scale (part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code). He pleaded not guilty and called the accusations “absurd.” In October 2022, his lawyer reported termination criminal case against Mau.
After that, the source of RIA Novosti reported, Mau left on vacation in Israel and still has not returned. The press service of the RANEPA reported in November that Mau had gone on his annual scheduled leave, during which Dmitry Arefiev acted as rector.
