Peskov: Putin does not plan contacts with Western leaders on the Middle East

Russian President Vladimir Putin does not yet plan telephone conversations with leaders of European countries and the United States in connection with the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. RIA Novosti about this reported press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov.

October 16 Putin spent negotiations with the leaders of four Middle Eastern countries – with the presidents of Syria, Iran, Egypt and Palestine, who shared with the Russian leader their assessments of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and emphasized the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the need to lift the blockade. Today the office of the President of Turkey reported about a telephone conversation between Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Putin. During the conversation, the leaders discussed the escalating conflict between Israel and Palestine, as well as the humanitarian crisis in the region. Erdogan believes that “the silence of Western states has brought the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip to an inevitable level.”

Previously Peskov emphasizedthat Russia’s position on the situation in the Middle East is consistent, Moscow conducts a “regular and intensive dialogue” with Israel and exchanges views. He noted that the foundation for resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict should be the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
