Peskov praised London’s plans to supply additional weapons to Kyiv

The Kremlin has a negative attitude towards London’s plans to send additional weapons to Kyiv, said Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov. This will not have a fundamental impact on the course of the special operation, but, Peskov noted, this step leads to further destruction and retaliatory measures.

Earlier today became knownthat the UK intends to supply Ukraine with hundreds of unmanned aerial systems and anti-aircraft missile systems, including new long-range strike drones with a range of more than 200 km. The press service of the kingdom reported that British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak would announce this today at a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

In this regard, journalists asked Peskov to comment on this intention of London.

“We are extremely negative about this. Great Britain claims to be at the forefront among those countries that continue to pump Ukraine with weapons. We repeat once again – this cannot have any significant and fundamental impact on the course of a special military operation, but certainly, this leads to further destruction, this leads to further retaliatory actions, and so on. That is, for Ukraine, this story is being made much more difficult,” the Kremlin spokesman said.

The UK intends to continue to provide military and financial assistance to Ukraine, as well as impose sanctions against Russia. At the same time, military assistance includes the training of the Ukrainian military – in 2022, the kingdom trained 15,000 military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This summer, training will also begin for Ukrainian pilots as part of a new training program.

11 May UK Secretary of Defense Ben Wallace confirmedthat the kingdom is supplying Ukraine with Storm Shadow cruise missiles with a range of more than 250 km, which significantly exceeds the range of missiles currently used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine for American HIMARS (80 km). These missiles are designed to be launched from the air. They are already being used to strike at the Donbass.

Peskov said that Russia was ready to send British long-range missiles to Ukraine and to “further pumping” Ukraine’s weapons from the West. Prior to this, the Kremlin spokesman said that Moscow has a negative attitude towards such supplies, according to him, they “require an adequate response.”
