Peskov: The issue of transferring the bodies of prisoners killed in Il-76 is within the competence of the investigation

The issue of transferring to Ukraine the bodies of prisoners of war who died as a result of the crash of a Russian Il-76 plane in the Belgorod region is within the competence of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. This was announced on Friday, February 2, by Kremlin official Dmitry Peskov.

He noted that this issue is “entirely in the hands of the investigative authorities.”

“An investigation is underway. And during the investigation, naturally, all regimes are determined only by the investigation,” Peskov said, answering a corresponding question from journalists.

Earlier, the presidential press secretary, commenting on the statement of the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Andrey Yusov that Kiev asked Moscow to hand over the bodies of the dead, said that the Ukrainian side did not contact the Kremlin with this request.

Let us remind you that the Il-76 military transport aircraft crashed in the Belgorod region on January 24, 2024. On board there were 65 captured soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces who were being taken for exchange.

The day before, the Russian Investigative Committee confirmed that an American air defense system was used to attack the plane.
