Peskov: meeting between Aliyev and Erdogan can resolve the situation in Karabakh

The Kremlin hopes that the meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan will help stabilize the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.
“We hope every time that all the meetings held by the President of Azerbaijan, including with the President of Turkey, will contribute to security in the region and will contribute to the normalization of life in Karabakh after what happened. <...> We know how close the relations are between Baku and Ankara,” Peskov said in response to a question from journalists about how the Kremlin views negotiations on the Zangezur corridor between Aliyev and Erdogan.
Putin’s press secretary added that Russia’s relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey are no less close. The Kremlin respects the sovereign right of the republics to develop bilateral cooperation, Peskov emphasized.
Erdogan arrived for a meeting with Aliyev in Azerbaijan on September 25. The meeting of presidents is taking place in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, an exclave that is separated from the rest of Azerbaijan by Armenian territory. The leaders will discuss Baku’s “anti-terrorist operation” in Nagorno-Karabakh, the “process of disarmament of separatist soldiers,” as well as the creation of the Zangezur corridor to connect Azerbaijani territories with the Nakhichevan Republic.
