Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that he knows nothing about the official start of the presidential campaign scheduled for November. This is how he commented on Kommersant’s publication that the start of the informal presidential campaign will probably be timed to coincide with the opening of the international exhibition and forum “Russia” next month.
“I am not aware that the presidential campaign will be officially announced in November. To be honest, I don’t have such information,” said Mr. Peskov, answering a corresponding question during a press call.
At the same time, the presidential press secretary noted that if Vladimir Putin has plans to attend the forum, this will be reported “in a timely manner.” “As for the forum, if the president has such plans, we will inform you in a timely manner,” he said.
Legally, the presidential election campaign will begin from the moment they are appointed by the Federation Council. According to Russian law, this decision must be made no earlier than 100 and no later than 90 days before voting day, which will be March 17, 2024. That is, elections are expected to be scheduled from December 8 to December 18, 2023.
At the same time, the informal presidential campaign could start as early as November, sources close to the presidential administration told Kommersant. It will be timed to coincide with the opening of the international exhibition and forum “Russia”. According to one of the possible scenarios, Vladimir Putin may announce his nomination for a new presidential term on this platform.
