When extending the grain deal for 120 days, Russian interests were taken into account, the UN assured Moscow that all problems with the export of Russian food and fertilizers would be resolved. This statement was made by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
“There is an assurance from the UN that the work will be finalized to ensure Russian exports of food, grain and fertilizers. We state that this work has its results,” Peskov said. He clarified that there was no talk of an indefinite extension of the deal.
In particular, he pointed to a joint statement by the United States, Great Britain and the EU, in which the countries eased sanctions against Russia. The document states that the purpose of the restrictions is not food and fertilizers from the Russian Federation. Peskov called this decision “important progress in a positive way.” According to him, now it is necessary to “unblock all direct and indirect problems” that hinder the export of Russian products.
Earlier today Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky informedthat the deal on Ukrainian grain was extended for 120 days. It was noted that this decision was supported by all parties, this was welcomed by UN Secretary General António Guterres.
Later renewal of the agreement commented Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. “In accordance with the decision taken by Turkey, the UN, the Russian Federation and Ukraine as a result of the four-party negotiations organized by Turkey, the agreement on the Black Sea grain corridor has been extended for 120 days from November 2022,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.
The grain deal, which provides for the export of grain from the blocked ports of Ukraine, as well as the export of Russian grain and fertilizers, was signed by representatives of Turkey and the UN with representatives of Russia and Ukraine on July 22 for a period of 120 days with the possibility of extension.
At the same time, on October 29, Russia suspended its participation in the deal due to an attack by the Ukrainian side on the ships of the Black Sea Fleet. Already on November 2, Moscow resumed its participation. At the same time, the Kremlin emphasized that this decision does not mean that the Russian Federation is ready to extend the deal after November 19.
At the same time, the Russian authorities have repeatedly pointed out problems with the implementation of the terms of the agreement. The Russian Foreign Ministry claimed that the West did not comply with the second part, which concerns the memorandum between Russia and the UN. At the same time, the UN said that they were working to remove restrictions that hinder the export of Russian grain and fertilizers.
