Peskov: falling demand for Russian gas in Europe is offset by other countries

Falling demand for gas in Europe will compensate for the interest in it in actively developing regions of the world, said Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian President.

“Europe is not the only consumer of natural gas, nor is it the only continent that needs natural gas to sustain its rapid growth. There are regions that are developing much faster and have much more ambitious development programs. In these regions, the demand for gas will be able to compensate for the lack of demand in the European direction,” Peskov explained.

The energy crisis in the EU worsened in early July, when there were interruptions in gas supplies from Russia to European countries. In particular, they are caused by problems with the maintenance of turbines for Nord Stream due to Western sanctions against Russia.

Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia citing an assessment by independent energy market consultant ICIS writesthat there will be enough gas in EU storage until February 2023 if the EU and those countries with which the bloc has a common supply network fail to reduce gas consumption by at least 10%. At the same time, the resumption of gas supplies from Russia would allow Europe to hold out until March, albeit with record low levels of gas storage occupancy, experts say.
