Peskov explained what Putin meant by fair taxation

The main directions of progressive taxation will be developed and proposed by the State Duma and the government, said presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov. According to him, the changes will take into account the principles of justice, which the head of state Vladimir Putin spoke about in his message to the Federation Council and in an interview with journalist Dmitry Kiselev.

“Speaking about fairness, of course, he (the president – Kommersant) said that those who earn less should pay less, and those who have the opportunity to pay more receive more income. This is the basic principle of justice,” the press secretary answered Kommersant FM’s question about what specific parameters of the new tax policy Vladimir Putin could be talking about.

Dmitry Peskov clarified that changes to tax policy are already being worked out.

In his address to the Federal Assembly on February 29, Vladimir Putin instructed modernize the tax burden and fix it in a new form until 2030. According to the president, it is necessary to consider “a more equitable distribution of the tax burden towards those with higher corporate and personal income.” The tax burden on families needs to be reduced, including through deductions, he added.

In an interview with journalist Dmitry Kiselev, the head of state said, that the country’s authorities plan to reduce the tax burden on large families and “take a whole series of steps in this direction.” In his opinion, society perceives the transition to a system of progressive taxation as normal.
