Peskov explained the reduction of the terms of the Russia-Africa summit

The reduction in the timing of the second Russia-Africa summit in St. Petersburg is due to the nuance of the program, Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of Russia, told reporters.

“It has to do with the program. Such a nuance of the summit program,” Peskov answered the corresponding question.

A day earlier, it became known that the dates of the second summit, the economic and humanitarian forum “Russia – Africa” changed for July 27-28. The event was previously scheduled for July 26-29.

At the end of March, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke at the plenary session of the international parliamentary conference “Russia – Africa in a multipolar world”. The event became a preparation for the second Russia-Africa summit. The forum is organized by the Foundation “Roscongress”.

Putin said that the first Russia-Africa summit, which took place in Sochi in 2019, allowed Russia to revive ties with the states of the continent. Moscow “has always given and will continue to give priority to cooperation with African states,” the president said, calling it one of the invariable priorities of Russian foreign policy.

Putin June 17 accepted in St. Petersburg, a mission of seven African countries, which presented a peace initiative to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. It was led by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. The meeting lasted over three hours.
