Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov believes that attacks by the Ukrainian armed forces on Russian regions are attempts to cast a shadow on the presidential elections.
“I would leave this to our security forces – it is their prerogative to make an assessment. But you are right that this is an attempt to cast a shadow on the elections,” the Kremlin representative said during a press call.
Previously, the Russian Ministry of Defense reportedthat yesterday, March 14, military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, together with the border troops of the FSB, repelled an attack by units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Belgorod region. According to the department, the Ukrainian troops landed on two helicopters in the area of the border village of Kozinka, but were stopped and pushed back. Now control over the settlement has been completely restored, the Ministry of Defense said.
Last night, Governor of the Belgorod Region Vyacheslav Gladkov statedthat there is no Ukrainian army in the region. He did not directly talk about the battles, but said that “Kozinka was hit hard, the destruction was very serious.” Before this, Russian military correspondents wrote about clashes with the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Kozinka. Responsibility for shelling and fighting on the outskirts of the border regions of Russia was taken by the Russian Volunteer Corps and the Legion “Russian Freedom” fighting on the side of Ukraine (declared terrorist and banned on the territory of the Russian Federation).
