Peskov: Europe is changing gas dependence on Russia to dependence on the United States

Europe is holding back when it says it wants to get rid of gas dependence on Russia, while at the same time increasing dependence on fuel from the United States. This statement was made by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.

“Against the background of an absurd desire, absolutely frantic, as the Europeans say, “to get rid of dependence on Russia.” But at the same time, they do not finish saying that they want to change one addiction for another addiction. That is, they have now changed their dependence on Russia for dependence on American liquefied natural gas, ”Peskov said on the air of the Rossiya 1 TV channel (quoted by RIA Novosti).

He noted that in relations between Europe and the United States in this area, “reciprocity is much less.” According to the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, now that Europeans are losing billions of euros every day, these billions of dollars are already being earned in Washington.

The European Union has imposed an embargo on the transportation of Russian oil to third countries at a price above $60 per barrel and is now discussing a price ceiling for Russian gas. The restriction on blue fuel from the Russian Federation has been discussed for a long time, but the EU countries cannot come to an agreement. Bloomberg wrotethat 12 Member States called for a significant reduction in the ceiling. Until sanctions are imposed, the EU and the UK bought almost 21% more Russian LNG than last year. After the imposition of the embargo, the EU intends to replace Russian gas with LNG supplies from the United States, Qatar and Azerbaijan.
