The Kremlin did not rule out provocations against Belarus after the meeting between the President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko and the Acting Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin, which took place on April 18. This was stated by the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.
“Attention has been drawn, provocations cannot be ruled out,” he said, answering a question about possible provocations against Belarus after this meeting.
Lukashenka and Pushilin met in Minsk the day before, April 18. During this meeting, the President of Belarus promised to assist in the restoration of the DNR. In March, in an interview with Belarus 1 TV channel, Pushilin said that the DPR authorities were considering options for attracting investment to the region, including from Belarus. The acting head of the DPR noted that he sees prospects in the DPR for both Russian and Belarusian businesses.
After that, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine condemned meeting between Lukashenka and Pushilin and decided to recall Ambassador Igor Kizim from Minsk. In addition, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry also pointed out that Pushilin “is hiding from the Ukrainian investigation for committing serious crimes.” In this regard, Lukashenka’s meeting with the acting head of the DPR in Ukraine was perceived as a “flagrant unfriendly act” on the part of Belarus.
