Peskov did not allow to ask a question about General Surovikin

Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov during a press conference did not allow a France Press journalist to ask a question about the situation around General Sergei Surovikin.

“No, you can’t,” Peskov said, in response to a correspondent’s request to ask a question about a possible investigation against the general.

On the same day, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu ignored the question of whether the general was being investigated, Interfax reported. Journalists asked the minister about this after a press conference following the Russian-Turkish talks. At the time of publication of this news, the message on the agency’s website has been deleted.

At the end of August, RIA Novosti and RBC reported on the release of Surovikin from the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces (VKS) of Russia. General Viktor Afzalov was appointed interim, RIA Novosti claimed. According to the source RBCafter being removed from the post of commander-in-chief of the VKS, Surovikin also ceased to be the deputy commander of the special operation in Ukraine.

Surovikin has not appeared in public since June 23. On the night of June 24, military commander Andrey Rudenko published on his Telegram channel the general’s appeal to the Wagner PMC. Surovikin urged the company to “stop the columns” and “solve all problems only peacefully.”

On June 27, The New York Times, citing American officials who have data from the US intelligence services, reported that Surovikin allegedly knew in advance about the plans of the founder of Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin to organize an armed rebellion. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov named these statements are speculation.

The general’s daughter, in a conversation with Baza, also denied her father’s arrest. According to her, everyone is “at their jobs.” The Public Monitoring Commission (POC) denied that Surovikin was in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center or in any other detention center. Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee Andrey Kartapolov informedthat the general is “resting”.

Peskov earlier refused comment on reports of the possible resignation of Surovikin. He forwarded this question to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
